SeaPoint Swifts held off NW University on penalties to win the ABC Motsepe League Playoffs in Umtata on Sunday. Both sides had secured their place in the NFD (MFC) after winning their respective semi-finals on Satuday.
NW University saw off the challenge of KZN’s Mkhambathi FC in the first of the semi-finals on Saturday. Their 2 – 1 victory secured their place in professional football for the 2026/27 season. Swifts came from a goal down to beat NC Professionals 4 – 1 in the second semifinal to join NWU in the NFD.
NW University finished the group stages top of Group A. After a goalless draw against Luthuli Brigades from Mpumalanga, NWU then beat Gauteng champions NB La Masia 3 – 2 to secure top spot.
SeaPoint Swifts had an impressive start to Group B, beating Ravens from the Eastern Cape 3 – 1 before being pushed hard by Manaung Unite in a 1 – 1 draw to secure their coveted semi-final spot.
